Butterscotch brownies

Good enough to bake all year round, add a little of almond extract for a special holiday taste. These are good ones to have around because they are super quick and easy to make!

Butterscotch Brownies

¼ cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons milk
1 large egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt

Heat oven to 350°. Grease bottom and sides of a large square pan with shortening. Melt butter in saucepan over low heat; remove from heat. Stir in brown sugar, vanilla, almond extract, milk and egg. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in pan. Bake about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes in pan on wire rack. Cut into rows while still warm.
