It’s finished!

Well, kind of. At least all the construction part. But basically my mom’s new suite is done. Just a few odds and ends that will be taken care of over the next few days.

So we spent Saturday moving furniture. Not just into the new room, but also rearranging in the rest of the house. For months she has been living with furniture stacked up practically to the ceiling in her living room. So that was one of the tasks to be completed.

During this whole time she has also been crammed into a bedroom that had to function both as a bedroom and a study. There was just about enough space to walk around the bed or pull out a chair to sit at one of the two desks. Not both.

She has now gone to this…

We kept scratching our heads and wondering… what do we do now with all this space?

One of the cool features of her new room is that window in the corner that houses her bottle collection.

And then came the usual “where should we put this?” dilemma. In this particular case, it was about the piece of furniture below, which is supposed to be a room divider. We kept moving it around, not finding the right spot for it. It might just have to go in another room…

After working in such tight quarters, it’s going to take some time to get used to all this space! Naturally, only the furniture has been moved in so far. I’m sure the place will start to feel cozier once her bookshelves are in and pictures are hung on the wall, and all the usual office “junk” has been distributed in the room.

Behind that rock wall is the entrance to the bathroom. The closet and counter were brought from her house in Quito and refinished. Such beautiful woodwork! The first door at the end leads into the shower/toilet area, with another door on the other side that leads into the study. This means she can access the bathroom from two sides.

So it has that “brand new” feeling to it, where things feel a little odd. But my mom has such good taste that it will not take long before this new suite starts to feel like home. I can’t wait to see her finishing touches. 🙂
