Scrappy crochet

In the quilting world we understand clearly what a “scrappy” project is, but does such a thing exist for other crafts? In my book, when it comes to crochet… yes siree!

Another of my 2019 crochet projects –planned as a gift– involved using up every little last leftover yarn from crochet and knitting projects over the last few years. The aim was to reduce my yarn stash and use bits of yarn too small for a full-size project, and too large to throw out.

Enter the scrappy afghan.

So easy, so much fun. Two basic stitches (dc and dc shell), and just crochet on until the first bit of yarn runs out, attach the second and continue working until that one runs out, and so on and so forth. No rhyme or reason as to the color combinations… and it works.

No waste, lots of fun, and the recipient loved the resulting afghan.

I like this approach. Sadly I do not know how to crochet, but if I learn, I’ll remember this one. Thanks, and have a wonderful day.

I am a quilt designer and teacher, and design and publish my own line of quilt patterns. With this blog I would like to share the bits and pieces of my life.
