Yep! I love to design!

Ok, so admittedly I wasn’t feeling ecstatic about my sewing accomplishments so far this year (it seems like so little as compared to how much I would like to do). So to cheer myself up I’ve done a little evaluating about what I have accomplished as a designer this year… Read More »

Oh, oh… one more!

In case you were wondering why I would choose to make an inventory of accomplishments… no, it isn’t that I need pats on the back or that I’m in a funk about not doing enough. It’s just that I’m a somewhat structured person (ok, ok… just a little OCD) and I find it helpful to “organize,” be it physical objects or goals and dreams that live in my mind. Read More »

A year of accomplishments

Even though these weeks have been and continue to be about Christmas sewing, as we approach the end of the year my thoughts turn to new beginnings. And naturally… to possible new projects. But I’m thinking before I start planning new things I need to take stock again of the goals I set for myself this year. Read More »

Cangrejada

Jared (son #2) and his girlfriend, Karina, invited us all over to their place yesterday for an all-day crab fest. Yes, that’s what we know as a cangrejada. So I thought I would share a few images today of some typical Ecuadorian seafood. Read More »

Christmas Collections

Over the last week we had a long holiday (from Wednesday on) which I used to do some computer housekeeping (over 65 GB in patterns alone to back up!) and some more Christmas sewing. Read More »

Serendipity

You will recall a couple of days ago I posted about some of my scrap busting efforts, including  a couple of pieces in which in addition to itty bitty scraps of fabric I had included bits of thread and yarn. Read More »

Saving scraps: when is it enough?

For someone who complains of not having enough time to sew, I sure seem to be able to accumulate scraps! Truth be told, I think that’s because I save everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. Quilting quality fabrics are hard to come by here, so I am always trying to find ways to economize. Read More »

Talking about knitting…

I really do like to knit. I find it more relaxing than sewing when done in the evenings, while watching a movie, because I don’t have to worry about lighting and can actually watch while keeping my fingers busy. Read More »

Christmas sewing on the brain

I don’t know about you, but whatever extra little time I find here and there these days is dedicated to sewing Christmas presents. Well, knitting, too. Read More »

A basket and a bag

It sure seems to have taken us a long time to get into some kind of routine. And I’m still not quite there. Or know if I will be anytime soon. It’s been years now living with adult children, so having younger kids around has involved quite an adjustment. And I guess I am slowly starting to realize that there is not such thing as a “regular” routine around here anymore. Every day brings something new… Read More »

English Paper Piecing Tutorial

Way back in July I promised my friend Pearl I would put together a little video tutorial on how I do English Paper Piecing. I didn’t think it would take this long, but I’ve finally done it. (I guess that means we have finally gotten into a routine around here, and I am actually getting back to my own life! 🙂 ) Read More »

I am a self-learner. I taught myself to sew and to quilt. And I taught myself how to draw. I love to dye my own fabrics, am a fanatic of free-motion quilting, and dabble with mixed media. I am a quilt designer and teacher, and design and publish my own line of quilt patterns. With this blog I would like to share the bits and pieces of my life.
