Church Bank

The Lutheran church I attend here in Quito is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year (in Dec. 2008). In preparing for this celebration, we have decided we need to spruce up the building a bit, and have prepared several fund-raising activities. Read More »

Circle of friends: sewing and sharing

I think I have mentioned this before: Ecuador is a country rich in so many different handicrafts. However, there is no quilting tradition (beautiful woven textiles and beautiful embroidery work!). So my kids often tell me laughinly that the reason why I decided to start teaching was so I could have friends to sew with. Guess that wasn’t too hard to figure out! Read More »

Best friends and goodies

My closest, dearest friend in the world has been here for a visit. Jim and I have been friends for almost 30 years now… wow! We live thousands of miles apart (he lives in Seattle), yet time and distance have not been an obstacle to share and support each other through life’s joys and struggles. Read More »

Sneak peak

Sometimes I wish there were more hours in the day (and night!) to do everything I would like. I must admit, however, that I am one of those really lucky people in the world: I get to do what I want! Read More »

Painting, cleaning, rearranging

My 19-year old daughter Jamie and I decided to switch rooms. One, because change is good every now and then. Two, because I spend so little time in my room, it’s sole purpose being for sleeping a few hours every night. I literally live in my studio. Jamie, on the other hand, has her computer in her room. Goals and resolutions

It’s interesting how the beginning of a new year can involve a shift in perspective. I mean, what is particularly “special” and different about Jan. 1st, as opposed to June 23rd? Read More »

A new year and new beginnings

So… I decided it was high time to join the blogging world. Over the last few years I have found my browsing habits have changed quite a bit. Since I now design, I find I very rarely visit websites offering free patterns – there is only so much one can collect and sew in a lifetime! Read More »

I am a self-learner. I taught myself to sew and to quilt. And I taught myself how to draw. I love to dye my own fabrics, am a fanatic of free-motion quilting, and dabble with mixed media. I am a quilt designer and teacher, and design and publish my own line of quilt patterns. With this blog I would like to share the bits and pieces of my life.
