Passing on the torch

2014-098Fanesca is the traditional Ecuadorian dish for Easter. It also happens to be my all-time favorite when it comes to Ecuadorian cuisine. I will never turn down an invitation to eat a bowl, regardless of who prepares it and what particular ingredients are included or left out. Except for “mellocos,” which you might have heard of as ulluco tubers.  Certainly not my favorite, and I will pick them out if included. Read More »

Building an extension

2014-079More than a year after leaving our life in Quito we all seem to have finally settled in our new homes or locations. That is, Jamie and Carlos will most likely be staying in the apartment they’ve been living in, and my mother will definitely be staying in our country cottage in the valley of Guayllabamba, north of Quito. For them, “home” is now a reality. Read More »

I am a self-learner. I taught myself to sew and to quilt. And I taught myself how to draw. I love to dye my own fabrics, am a fanatic of free-motion quilting, and dabble with mixed media. I am a quilt designer and teacher, and design and publish my own line of quilt patterns. With this blog I would like to share the bits and pieces of my life.
