What I most enjoy doing with my time!

Still can’t draw a straight line!

Thursdays are dedicated to sewing/teaching/learning with my niece, Ana Lía. Though she is a relatively new quilter, she is extremely talented and catches on very quickly. It’s been fun to design and sew with someone who thinks way beyond traditional beginner quilts.

Floral whimsy… finished at last!

This project has been sitting on my table for months! Christmas and the New Year came and went by, and over that holiday week I actually quilted it. And since then it has continued to sit, waiting for the binding.

What BOMs are you following?

We’re already nearing the end of January and I’m wondering how many block-of-the-month projects you are all following this year.

Mini sewing circle

It’s been well over a year since my sewing circle last met. Not only did I move out of the city, but it seems the rest of the members also ended up scattered, and coming together once a week became challenging.

A seven-patch table topper

My beginner piecing class focuses on block design and piecing: 4-patch, 9-patch, 5-patch, and 7-patch. I tell my students that if they learn how to draw and sew blocks based on these four grids, they will have enough to make quilts for a lifetime.

Hexagon Craze

In doing some housekeeping over at Angie’s Bits ‘n Pieces I found some book reviews we decided to remove from the website a while back. Since they deal with some of my favorite books, I thought I would share them here. I hope you find them useful. 🙂 Here goes the first.

Floral whimsy

I actually did spend some time over the holiday weekend sewing the quilt design that was the subject of my last post.

Aha! moments

Earlier this week I stopped by the post office to pick up a fun package sent by the Electric Quilt Company, with copies of my recently released book and a few other goodies. Love the larger format. LOVE the spiral binding! 🙂

On rulers and drawing faces

Yesterday I took a little time “off” from work and running around to work on a little piece, resulting from a Lauren Vlcek online class offered on The Quilt Show. Love Lauren. Love the class. 🙂

The Applique Garden

Over the weekend we launched our new website…. and now you know what has been keeping me so busy over the last year few months. This, and Jamie’s wedding, and adjusting to a new life, and volunteering, and…

Machine Embroidery Applique

I LOVE Applique. I love to design applique, and I love to sew applique. And, until lately, pretty much everything I sewed was by hand – freezer paper applique was my favorite.

Treadle On!

Lita, my grandmother on my father’s side, had a big influence on my life and in many ways was responsible for instilling in me a love for sewing and crafts.

Finished quilt sampler

So, with all the wedding hullabaloo, one of the things I had forgotten to post about is my Craftsy 2012 sampler. You’ll remember I started writing about it here.

I am a self-learner. I taught myself to sew and to quilt. And I taught myself how to draw. I love to dye my own fabrics, am a fanatic of free-motion quilting, and dabble with mixed media. I am a quilt designer and teacher, and design and publish my own line of quilt patterns. With this blog I would like to share the bits and pieces of my life.
