Quilt-as-you-go placemats

I decided it was time to start dipping into those fabric samples and make something fun. The truth is, I am still ironing the last ones and realized I wouldn’t be able to get the lid shut on the plastic storage box. I am certainly not going to try to find another place for them… it is time to use them up! Read More »

Thread storage and an idea for zippers

Time to focus again on my low-cost “studio makeover.” By this I simply mean reorganizing my sewing supplies without a large investing $$$ in new furniture and cabinets, using what I have on hand but re-thinking the way I’ve been working. So this week I decided I really needed to address my thread issues. Read More »

Fabric all organized

This actually happened a while back, and I did take photos, but with other things happening have just not blogged about this. So, to end the chapter on fabric organization… Nothing has changed with regard to my shelving system. Read More »

Ballerina craze

Ok, so something you should know about me is that it’s a little dangerous to ask me for a “special” design. Why? Because I get carried away and don’t always know when to STOP!

One of our members asked me for a ballerina design a few weeks ago. I have just now gotten around to drawing some designs, and will write up the instructions and  post one of these patterns this week. The question is… which one? Read More »

My favorite quilt

This post is part of the Bloggers Quilt Festival, sponsored by Amy’s Creative Side. Click on the image to the left to see the other participating blogs.

I took up quilting as a “serious” hobby in 1995, and since then have made many, many quilts. So many, I’ve lost count. As I work on a quilt, it becomes my favorite one at that moment. Yet if I take a step back to look at my entire body of work, there is no doubt as to which is my most treasured quilt. Read More »

More on banana cake

A couple of weeks ago I shared (here) on some banana cake my mom made one day for my sewing circle. Since then she has corrected me: I had stated one of the ingredients was flour, and she has pointed out there is no flour (or sugar) in this recipe. So I tried it myself (only 1/4 of the recipe) and it turned out great. Read More »

Help with fraying in your appliqué project?

Every time someone comes down to Quito for a visit I take advantage and have them bring down what I consider are my essential notions and supplies. This time my brother was kind enough to pack a little bag of goodies for me I had ordered and had sent to him. For someone who doesn’t sew/quilt, I guess some of these supplies appear rather odd. I am a self-learner. I taught myself to sew and to quilt. And I taught myself how to draw. I love to dye my own fabrics, am a fanatic of free-motion quilting, and dabble with mixed media. I am a quilt designer and teacher, and design and publish my own line of quilt patterns. With this blog I would like to share the bits and pieces of my life.
