I know… it seems early in the year for Christmas projects. However, I’ve become addicted to English paper piecing lately and since it takes some time, I figured why not start something early and actually have it finished by Christmas time!

Christmas Hexagons
Fabric Candy?
These days most of my time seems to be taken up in teaching. I keep forgetting to take my camera and take photos of the shop where I teach – thought you might like to see how we go about finding our quilting supplies here (kind of like a scavenger hunt). I’ll try to remember…
Sewing with Alexia and Julian
Lucky me! Grandkids Alexia and Julian got off early from school yesterday (long holiday weekend – Labor Day) so came to spend the afternoon (and evening and night!) with me. These days we don’t always have a lot of time together, so we decided to make good use of the day.
Church Stoles
Two more UFOs finished! I had started these stoles last year, planning on having them ready for Pentecost Sunday, but never made it. All that was left to do was decide and sew the appliqué designs and quilt the stoles. I think they turned out quite nice… and in time for Pentecost Sunday this year.
Tablerunners: One down, two more to go!
As a break between classes and whenever possible in the evenings if not too pooped, I’ve been trying to reduce my stack of UFOs. This week I finished quilting this Hexagon Star tablerunner I’ve had lying around for over a year!
Time to celebrate: the book is out!
So sorry I haven’t posted in ages… I was pretty much pooped out writing the EQ6 Appliqué Drawing book and decided to take some time off from the computer, for what I thought would just be a couple of days but rolled into weeks.
Finished!
Ok, so I didn’t meet my self-imposed deadline to finish the book. Then my editor suggested we aim for February 15. Which was last Friday. Didn’t make that, either. She tells me now that she doubted that was realistic and was really aiming for sometime this week. That was after I sent in my last […]
Church Bank
The Lutheran church I attend here in Quito is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year (in Dec. 2008). In preparing for this celebration, we have decided we need to spruce up the building a bit, and have prepared several fund-raising activities.
Circle of friends: sewing and sharing
I think I have mentioned this before: Ecuador is a country rich in so many different handicrafts. However, there is no quilting tradition (beautiful woven textiles and beautiful embroidery work!). So my kids often tell me laughinly that the reason why I decided to start teaching was so I could have friends to sew with. […]
Best friends and goodies
My closest, dearest friend in the world has been here for a visit. Jim and I have been friends for almost 30 years now… wow! We live thousands of miles apart (he lives in Seattle), yet time and distance have not been an obstacle to share and support each other through life’s joys and struggles.
Sneak peak
Sometimes I wish there were more hours in the day (and night!) to do everything I would like. I must admit, however, that I am one of those really lucky people in the world: I get to do what I want!
More cleaning, sorting, throwing out… and a little bit of sewing
It sure seems I got the spring cleaning bug early this year! This week it’s been the turn to go through files, sort out documents, take inventory, and in general put things in order in my studio/office.
