Tribute to a friend

I find that in blogging there is a very fine line between being open and accessible on one hand, and sharing way too much personal information on the other. I would hope I strive for balance. And although I prefer to deal with personal issues privately, sometimes I know I have to step out of that comfort zone if I want to be genuine in what I share. This is such a time. Read More »

A time for everything

I am fortunate in that every day brings new things that enrich my life. Learning, relationships, sunshine and rain, books, music, movies, color, smells… There are joyful moments, and there are challenges. Read More »

Innovative Piecing

A few days back I wrote a post about the Rodale’s Successful Quilting Library and how happy I am to have now collected all 15 books in this series. Eldrid left a comment asking for further information on what the book Innovative Piecing (Rodale’s Successful Quilting Library) was about. So this is a short review on that book. Read More »

How to make easy foam stamps

My grand *babies* Julian and Alexia arrived late Sunday evening. They will be living here with their dad (my oldest son Jono), going to a local school for the next year. I am always delighted to have them here. 🙂 Read More »

Baby Animals

Something common to all humans is a love of babies… be they human or not. This is probably why so many of us like having pets. And especially when they’re small, there’s not much they need to do to melt our hearts. Just staring at us with wide open eyes can do it. And even such a simple thing as a baby animal taking a nap can stir tenderness in us, right? Well, today is not about quilting or other crafty goodies, nor about family and life in Ecuador…  I just want to make sure you get your daily dose of endorphins, so here’s a little bit of animal cuteness to make you smile. 🙂 Read More »

Today I would like to address a comment left by our friend Irene on my last post, The Best Quilting Library. Irene asked if any of the books in this collection cover the basics of fabric dyeing. Read More »

The Best Quilting Library

I love books. Both reading and collecting them. Hey, I come from a family of bookworms… what can I say? I have a large collection of contemporary fiction, and a very respectable assortment of glossaries and dictionaries. (Yes, I am one of those people who enjoys *reading* a dictionary). And, naturally, I have a pretty impressive number of crafting books. I haven’t counted them all, but I can tell at this point I have close to quilting books. Read More »

It feels like Christmas

Summers usually are a slow time of year for me. But not this year. In fact, the last few weeks have been very busy as I juggled work with visits from relatives. Read More »

A week in a nutshell

It’s been eight years since so many family members (on my Ecuadorian dad’s side) gathered together in one place. Last time there were over 100 of us, so we decided to hold a one-day reunion at a park. This time the number was closer to 40… in part a sad reflection of how many have left us, either because they have passed on or because couples have broken up or divorced. Read More »

Borrowing someone else’s eyes

It probably happens to us all, right? We get so used to the place where we live that we tend to look at our surroundings with jaded eyes. Having visitors – especially those who have come for the first time – proves to be a good opportunity for me to look at this city where I live with fresh eyes. I think I needed a reminder of how privileged I am to be able to live in such an amazing town. Read More »

It pays to read labels

I love hardware stores. Maybe even as much (possibly more?) than fabric stores. And that is because there is so much to be found in a hardware store that can be used in a quilting studio at a fraction of the cost in comparison to similar products to be found in quilting or craft stores. Best online resource for quilting supplies

One of our website members is coming down to Ecuador for a few weeks in August. And, as only a quilter would do, she has offered to set aside a small suitcase for me to fill with fabric and other supplies I am not able to find locally. How cool is that ? 🙂 Read More »

  • Angie Padilla

I am a self-learner. I taught myself to sew and to quilt. And I taught myself how to draw. I love to dye my own fabrics, am a fanatic of free-motion quilting, and dabble with mixed media. I am a quilt designer and teacher, and design and publish my own line of quilt patterns. With this blog I would like to share the bits and pieces of my life.
