Follow Friday: Wayne Kollinger’s Sketch Book

As I see it, there are really only two words needed to describe this inspiring quilt designer: WHAT IF?

In Wayne’s own words, “(a)ny serious writer, artist, composer, or quilt designer will tell you that waiting for inspiration is a mistake. Creative people don’t wait for great ideas to come to them; they go looking for them. And how do you go looking for great ideas? You ask what if.”

And that is precisely what his blog is about. I have found his work particularly appealing because at heart I really, really love traditional quilt block designs.  But I get bored with traditional settings. By asking that very simple question — What if? — Wayne challenges us to take these beautiful, traditional designs and “update” them to produce quilts that reflect our modern times. And he proves it with some pretty fantastic quilt designs.

Need some examples? How about this Wonky Shoo Fly quilt?

Or many a quilter’s favorite… the Ohio Star?

And when he starts combining traditional blocks… Well, I think it best for you to form your own opinion! (:

Take some time to visit Wayne Kollinger. I PROMISE you are in for am amazing learning experience!

Thank you for your kind words.

I’ve been reading your blog and I enjoy it. I particularly like your inspirational blogs. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only only one trying to convince the world to go that extra step and design quilts.
